Temporary Hiatus: Midterms, papers, and Illness (Update)

I hate doing this.

It’s been long enough without new content and not only have I been busy, my voice has been savaged by allergies and more recently a nasty bug that’s been circulating around campus.

For the immediate foreseeable future – I’m hoping not any longer then a week (Tuesday the 21st – as if one can schedule these things!)  – I’m going on official hiatus to rest up, de-stress, and declare all out war on my maladies.

HOWEVER! One bit of good news:

That is a fresh Blue Yeti microphone, the first step into studio quality sound recording. SO OF COURSE MY VOICE IS BROKEN.

Update: To celebrate rolling over the 2,000 views milestone, I’m taking the site down the next step of professionalism. I now have a premium theme (headline), an actual domain (skepticconservative.com!) and more freedom with site design. And there should be no ads!

Site design will be evolving in creative ways for the next little while – I’m hopeful that I can find a way to make it friendly for you guys, and to especially make the site easy to navigate whether you’re searching for archives of old articles, podcasts, or even simply the podcast status and schedule.

I will reinstate the old donation button soon. In sum – it’s not cheap getting started as an independent new media journalist, and any kind of support or hand up is not only greatly appreciated but goes a long way towards enabling me to produce better content.  I have to extend thanks to everybody involved, even merely as a reader or listener, for your continued support 🙂

  1. Of course I discover your blog right as you go on hiatus! Well, rest up and take care. I’m looking forward to new podcasts when you’re feeling better.

    • Thanks a bunch! Ideally I can hit the ground running this weekend, or sooner.

Being sick doesn’t mean I can’t chip away at my archive and making thumbing through it less migraine inducing. I’d love to hear your thoughts on that when I make progress there 🙂

I look forward to your continued listenership.

  2. I applaud the new site design still king of ugly but it is a definite step forward for your terrible design tastes.

P.S. How much did it cost you?

    • I can at least say this new design meets the approval of a graphic artist I know 😛

$45. Not too expensive, one time cost. Worth it in my book – mouse over ‘about’ – that simple thing alleviates a lot of editing headaches long term once I get around to properly archiving the past 4 months and making this site more useful to people.

$99 for the .com + extras for 1 year, including direct video embedding and room for many more photos. I know there’s better options and paths out there, but I’m also paying for convenience factor. At the end of the day I’m just one guy and a busy one at that, and I need to keep the time cost of postings and maintenance low.

  3. How much to fix your sense of style? How much for the mic? Finally another person that will comment.

    • Style: $500,000 and not a penny less, since I charge extra for demands ;p

Microphone: $150 – technically free since I took advantage of a few lucrative gift cards and a coupon. This baby will last me a very very long time. VonGreyson has one, actually, it’s seen use most especially in the Imperial Gaming Podcasts and the occasional Tactical Debacle.

      • If I say make a generous donation to the Skeptic Conservative that just so happened to cover the cost of the microphone and shipping with a little bit extra money would you ship me one because here these cost around 250$ apparently.

      • …This could potentially happen, but I would need to research it out a little bit and get exact figures on shipping costs and liabilities to Canada, as well as make sure I know if there are any tax snarls involved.

        I’ll look into it.

  4. Use UPS or FedEx they can probably give you all the details you need.

  5. P.S. when will the donation button be up?
